Pastels on Canvas the Degas Way
Susan Fryer Voigt
#1532 Sat. 10:00am-4:00pm, Aug 16 (1 wk), $90 ($80 Members), Room A2020
Painting with pastels on canvas and framing with no glass has been a quest. History has provided some clues as to how Degas used steam with pastels. The process can be used on canvas with a primer base to create an oil-like look with pastels. The correct fixative and uv protection finishes the painting so it can be presented with or without a frame and with or without glass. Please join me for a day of fun and experimentation. Please bring your pastels - hard to soft (no oils) and two STRETCHED canvases no larger than 16” x 20”. For a more textured look, Fredrix Red Label Canvas works well. For a smoother look, Fredrix Blue Label Portrait Canvas or Fredrix Watercolor Canvas are perfect. Bring one standard and one smooth to try both looks. If you have a travel steamer, please bring it. No experience is necessary. The instructor will also have NuPastels, Sennelier pastels, and canvases available to purchase at a discount. Bring your lunch.
