Dear Student,

Thank you for enrolling in the Landscape Painting class. I am confident that you will find this class enjoyable, exciting and informative. If you need pastel supplies, the following my be helpful.

Supply Kit (if you are working in Pastels-otherwise, see the list of oils below)

Working with Utrecht Art Supplies, I designed a Landscape Painting Supply Kit that is available for you to pick up sometime before the commencement of this class.

Utrecht Art Supplies is located at 1601 Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. It is directly across from St Mary's Basilica. (Utrecht Art Supply Telephone 612-339-3400) You may want to call ahead, just to make sure your kit is ready. The approximate cost for this kit is $43.00. You will also need a drawing board approximately 24" X 30". You can have one cut from ¼" masonite at Home Depot at minimal cost. You will also need a 3/4" roll of strapping tape. You can purchase that at almost any hardware store.

First Assignment

Unless you have art books at home depicting landscape paintings of the French Impressionists or American Impressionists, please go to your local library and checkout any books of that nature that you can find. The Bloomington Art Center library located in the Drawing Studio may also be helpful. Any books specializing in landscape painting are acceptable. Then, select 4 or 5 painting images from these books that for one reason or another you have an affinity for. Bring these images to class and we will go from there.
